Obama Administration Announces Support for Two of Maryland’s Treasured Lands

Yesterday efforts to preserve some of Maryland’s treasured lands gained support as the Obama Administration announced its backing of two such places in the state: Captain John Smith Chesapeake National Historic Trail and Harriet Tubman Underground Railroad National Historical Park. 

“Marylanders love the great outdoors and the opportunity for outdoor recreation. We applaud the Obama Administration for working to protect Maryland’s special places,” said Ewa Krason, Field Organizer with Environment Maryland.

Unfortunately development threatens many of our most important natural areas in Maryland.

Environment Maryland has been working to protect places throughout the state from Terrapin Run in Allegany County to Snow Hill in Worcester County because our farms, forests and fields are continually threatened to become housing developments and strip malls.

 “We look forward to harnessing tremendous public support for these two gems to make sure that all of our state’s most treasured lands are protected for our families to enjoy,” added Ewa Krason.

The aim of the Administration’s America’s Great Outdoors Initiative is to create a conservation and recreation agenda for the 21st century by gathering public input and supporting popular outdoor places.
