The Baltimore metro area ranks as the smoggiest metropolitan area on the East Coast in a report released today by Environment Maryland. Three other Maryland metropolitan areas, specifically the Washington, D.C., Hagerstown, MD and Wilmington-Newark, DE-MD metro areas, were not far behind in the report’s rankings, with the Washington, D.C. area ranking as the second smoggiest on the East Coast.
President Obama today will announce the outline of proposed clean car standards that by 2030 will cut annual gasoline use by as much as 23 billion gallons, reduce annual emissions of global warming pollution by as much as 280 million metric tons, and save Americans over $80 billion at the gas pump annually.
A new report, The Best of America Under Threat from Underfunding released today by Environment Maryland showed that visitorship to Assateague Island National Seashore is on the rise. But even as Assateague Island National Seashore draws more and more visitors, it could face budget cuts in the coming year- leaving it with fewer resources for maintenance, upkeep and stewardship.
